The producers of The Book of Mormon and ATG Entertainment, which owns at operates the Eugene O’Neill Theatre, have announced that performances of the hit Broadway musical will officially resume on Wednesday, May 27.

This is the result of a three-alarm fire at the O’Neill earlier this month which left one firefighter with minor injuries. All theater staff were safe and accounted for and both the production and the theater owners are working diligently to make sure that the theater is safe and comfortable for all occupants and audience members.

While parties were encouraged by the speed of initial work in the theater, recovery took longer than expected, leading to the delayed reopening. According to an official statement, the fire was limited to the follow spot booth (a lighting booth near the top of the house) and the exact cause is unknown.

Ticket holders for impacted performances will be notified via their point of purchase to receive refunds or reschedule.

The 2011 Tony Award winner for Best Musical, The Book of Mormon recently celebrated 15 years since it opened on Broadway. A week of special performances with original cast members had been announced for the week of June 9-14. It is unclear whether the production will continue with that schedule.
