Something Wicked This Way Comes! Alan Cumming Helps With Installation of Broadway’s Macbeth Marquee

Tony Award winner Alan Cumming (Cabaret), who returns to Broadway this April in a groundbreaking one-man production of Shakespeare’s Macbeth, took part in the installation of the show’s marquee outside the Ethel Barrymore Theatre on Tuesday, February 12. When construction workers finished putting up the supernatural Scottish play’s official signage, Cumming, who plays all of the characters in the production, put on a harness, jumped in a cherry picker, and was elevated above West 47th Street to view his marquee first hand.

Clocking in at less than two hours, this Macbeth is set in the psychiatric ward of a mental institution, where an unnamed patient finds himself ritualistically reliving the iconic tragedy night after night while being watched on closed-circuit cameras. Co-directed by Tony Award winner John Tiffany (Once) and Andrew Goldberg (Black Watch), the National Theatre of Scotland production, produced on Broadway by Ken Davenport, had its premiere in June 2012 at Scotland’s Glasgow Tramway, and played a brief run at New York’s Lincoln Center Festival in July 2012.

Macbeth will officially open on April 21 and run through June 30.
