Something Rotten! Celebrates 100th Performance With a Very "Rotten" Cake
The new Broadway musical Something Rotten! celebrated its 100th Broadway performance yesterday with something sweet. The cast gathered at the show's home at the St. James Theatre to enjoy a specially "Rotten" cake, complete with Nigel and Nick Bottom figurines and, of course, some splattered tomatoes.

With music and lyrics by Grammy Award winner Wayne Kirkpatrick and Golden Globe Award nominee Karey Kirkpatrick and a book by Karey Kirkpatrick and John O'Farrell, Something Rotten! is a tribute to musical theater set in 1590s England. The plot follows Nick and Nigel Bottom, a pair of brothers desperate to write a play, but stuck in the shadow of William Shakespeare. When they're told by a local soothsayer that the future of theater involves singing, dancing, and acting at the same time, they set out to write the world's first musical. Tony winner Casey Nicholaw directs.

The production stars John Cariani, Heidi Blickenstaff, Brad Oscar, Kate Reinders, Brian d'Arcy James, Christian Borle, Gerry Vichi, Brooks Ashmanskas, Peter Bartlett, and more.
