Signature Theatre Celebrates Millionth Subsidized Ticket Sold

New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio declared May 22 “Signature Ticket Initiative Day.”

Signature Theatre recently celebrated its millionth subsidized ticket sold under its Signature Ticket Initiative: A Generation of Access program. On May 22, in the Pershing Square Signature Center Lobby, Vicki Been, deputy mayor of Housing and Economic Development in New York City, presented artistic director Paige Evans and executive director Harold Wolpert with a proclamation from Mayor Bill de Blasio officially proclaiming that day "Signature Ticket Initiative Day." The event celebrating this milestone included remarks from Signature's leaders and artists, a drawing to win a lifetime subscription to Signature Theatre, and a champagne toast for all in attendance.

The Signature Ticket Initiative: A Generation of Access, launched in 2005, is an unparalleled commitment by a theater to accessibility, equity, and outreach. Recognizing that cost was a major barrier to cultural participation, Signature created the initiative to eliminate this obstacle by offering affordable tickets to every seat for every performance during the initial run of Signature's productions.
