Broadway veteran Shoshana Bean will star as Fanny Brice in the upcoming production of Funny Girl at North Shore Music Theatre. Performances will run June 7-19. Complete casting will be announced at a later date.

"When you choose to produce Funny Girl, you are immediately put under a great deal of pressure to find a Fanny Brice who can deliver a performance that lives up to impossibly heightened expectations," said NSMT owner and producer Bill Hanney. "I am very excited to have Shoshana Bean cast in this iconic role. Her longtime passion for the show and her extraordinary talent will add up to a Fanny that exceeds expectations while being uniquely her own. Audiences are in for a performance that is not to be missed."

Bean made her Broadway debut in Hairspray and starred in Wicked as the first replacement to Tony winner Idina Menzel, taking on the role of the green-skinned witch Elphaba. She most recently she appeared in the pre-Broadway production of the new musical Beaches as CeeCee Bloom at Chicago's Drury Lane Theatre.

Funny Girl tells the story of performer Fanny Brice and her rise from the stages of Vaudeville to become a world-renowned Ziegfeld star. The original 1964 Broadway production famously starred Barbra Streisand, who reprised the role in the 1968 film. The musical features a book by Isobel Lennart, music by Jule Styne, and lyrics by Bob Merrill.
