ShawChicago has announced their upcoming season, which will once again feature readings of works my George Bernard Shaw and his contemporaries.
The season will open with Votes For Women, October 17-November 9. Elizabeth Robins’ early feminist work that confronts how men sexually exploit women. Robert Scogin will direct. Mid-Winter’s Tales ’09 (December 18-21) will follow, an evening of theater and music and a celebration of the Winter Solstice, adapted and directed by Belinda Bremmer and drawing from stories and songs from a variety of different cultures and generations.
The new year will see Shaw’s The Philanderer (February 6-March 1), Shaw’s exploration of a man committed to remaining uncommitted until he meets a self-described “new woman,” who belongs only to herself and is the property of no man. The season will close with Shaw’s The Doctor’s Dilemma (April 17-May 2), in which the playwright examines the dilemma of who should receive medical care and at what cost. Robert Scogin will direct.
