Harvard University will host a two-day symposium taking a fresh look at the work of Swedish playwright August Strindberg on the centennial of his death, March 2 and 3. The festival’s events will take place primarily at Harvard’s Barker Center.
The symposium, which is part of an international celebration of Strindberg’s work and ongoing influence, will include a keynote address by the Artistic Director of the Strindberg Intimate Theatre in Stockholm Ture Rangström, a discussion of Strindberg’s influence on American theater by Professor Eszter Szalczer of SUNY Albany, and special theater workshops of select Strindberg scenes by Founding Director of the A.R.T. Robert Brustein and head of Emerson College’s acting program David Krasner.
The weekend will also feature unique events such as a preview screening of The Stronger, a dance film adaptation of Strindberg’s play by Gabrielle Lansner and an exhibit of rare Strindberg artifacts, including the original manuscript of Lycko-Pers Resa.
