Clare Lizzimore’s new play makes its New York premiere at the company’s Stage 2.
The Atlantic Theater Company has announced complete casting for the New York premiere of Animal, written by Clare Lizzimore (Mint) and directed by Gaye Taylor Upchurch (Harper Regan, Bluebird). Performances will begin May 24 in advance of a June 6 opening and will run through June 18 at Atlantic Stage 2.
Animal will feature Kristin Griffith (Bottom of the World), Golden Globe Award nominee Rebecca Hall (Vicky Cristina Barcelona, Machinal), Greg Keller (Our Mother’s Brief Affair), David Pegram (War Horse), Morgan Spector (A View From the Bridge), and Fina Strazza (Matilda the Musical).
The story is described as follows: "Rachel has it all: marriage, house, career. So why does she suddenly have this creeping feeling? Did she leave something behind? Or is there something in the walls…? Her husband thinks she needs time; her psychiatrist suggests positive thinking. But then the visions start. A darkly comic play about the underside of domesticity, the complexity of the brain in chaos, and the thin line between sinking and survival."
The creative team includes scenic design by Rachel Hauck, costume design by Sarah J. Holden, lighting design by Bradley King, sound design by Stowe Nelson, and original music by Daniel Kluger.
