The Harold Prince musical revue announces its Broadway company.
Initial casting has been announced for the upcoming Broadway premiere of Prince of Broadway, a musical revue celebrating the six-decade career of producer-director Harold Prince. Manhattan Theatre Club will produce by special arrangement with Gorgeous Entertainment. The show is set to begin performances August 3 in advance of an August 24 opening at the Samuel J. Friedman Theatre.
The cast will feature Tony Award winner Chuck Cooper (Caroline, or Change), Drama Desk Award winner Janet Dacal (In the Heights), Tony Award nominee Nancy Opel (Urinetown), Bryonha Marie Parham (After Midnight), Tony Award nominee Emily Skinner (Side Show), Tony Award nominee Brandon Uranowitz (An American in Paris), Kaley Ann Voorhees (The Phantom of the Opera), and Tony Award nominee Tony Yazbeck (On the Town). One additional cast member will be announced at a later date.
Prince of Broadway, which features words and music from many of the shows that have earned Prince his record 21 Tony Awards, has a book by two-time Tony Award nominee David Thompson (The Scottsboro Boys); new songs, musical supervision, arrangements, and orchestrations by three-time Tony winner Jason Robert Brown; codirection and choreography by five-time Tony Award winner Susan Stroman (The Scottsboro Boys); and direction by Prince. The show looks at the circumstances and fortune that led to Prince creating some of the most enduring and beloved theater works of all time, including West Side Story, Fiddler on the Roof, Cabaret, and The Phantom of the Opera.
The creative team is made up Tony Award winner Beowulf Boritt (scenic and video design), six-time Tony Award winner William Ivey Long (costume design), two-time Tony Award winner Howell Binkley (lighting design), Jon Weston (sound design), Paul Huntley (wig design), Fred Lassen (music direction), Tara Rubin (casting), and Tony Award winner Jeffrey Seller (creative consultant).
Prince of Broadway premiered in Japan in 2015, with a cast that included Josh Grisetti, Shuler Hensley, Ramin Karimloo, Nancy Opel, Bryonha Marie Parham, Emily Skinner, Mariand Torres, Kaley Ann Voorhees, Tony Yazbeck, and Reon Yuzuki.
American Express Card Members will be able to purchase tickets beginning Monday, April 10, at 10am, and Audience Rewards members can buy tickets beginning Tuesday, April 18, at 10am. The general on-sale date is Monday, April 24, at 10am.
