The Geffen Playhouse’s world premiere of John Pielmeier’s The Exorcist, the stage adaptation of William Peter Blatty’s famous 1971 novel, officially opened on July 11. Tony Award winner John Doyle directs the production.
The show focuses on a young girl who is possessed by a supernatural spirit, much to the horror of her family and the local clergy.
Guests at the opening night included Rosanna Arquette, Kirk and Anne Douglas, Ricky Jay, Suzanne Somers, and Daniel Sullivan.
As previously reported, the cast features Richard Chamberlain (Father Merrin), Brooke Shields (Chris MacNeil), along with David Wilson Barnes (Father Damien Karras), Harry Groener (Burke Dennings), Emily Yetter (Regan MacNeil), Stephen Bogardus (Dr. Strong), Manoel Felciano (Father Joe), Tom Nelis (Dr. Klein), and Roslyn Ruff (Carla).
The design team includes Tony Award-winning scenic/costume designer Scott Pask, lighting designer Jane Cox, sound designer Dan Moses Schreier, and creative consultant Teller.
