Stage and screen star Patrick Wilson gave the keynote address at his alma mater, Carnegie Mellon University, on Sunday, May 20.
Speaking to a crowd of nearly 4,000 graduates, he told them to pursue their dreams regardless of fame or fortune, neither of which is guaranteed. Success, he said, depends on each individual. “You have to decide if you want it or not.”
Wilson, who earned his bachelor of fine arts in drama degree in 1995, received Tony and Drama Desk nominations for Oklahoma! and The Full Monty, with other stage credits including All My Sons, The Normal Heart, and Tenderloin. He received Emmy and Golden Globe nominations for his role as Joe Pitt in HBO’s adaptation of Angels in America, with additional film and television credits including A Gifted Man, Little Children and Watchmen.
