On Wednesday, April 25, the Manhattan Theatre Club world premiere of David Auburn’s The Columnist opened at MTC’s Samuel J. Friedman Theatre with Daniel Sullivan at the Helm.

Guests for the opening included Walter Bobbie, Sierra Boggess, Daniel Breaker, Norbert Leo Butz, Glenn Close, Brian d’Arcy James, Phil Donahue, Jill Eikenberry, Liz Flahive, Mamie Gummer, Lisa Lampanelli, Hamish Linklater, Rebecca Luker, Lynn Nottage, Janet McTeer, Jack O’Brien, Steven Pasquale, David Hyde Pierce, Lily Rabe, Tony Roberts, Sherie Rene Scott, Frances Sternhagen, Marlo Thomas, Michael Tucker, Alfred Uhry, Benjamin Walker, Kate Whorisky, and Rachel York.

The play centers on the syndicated newspaper columnist Joseph Alsop, played by Tony and Emmy Award winner John Lithgow. The cast also featuring Margaret Colin, Boyd Gaines, Stephen Kunken, Marc Bonan, Grace Gummer, and Brian J. Smith.
