Paul Mescal to Join Ben Platt and Beanie Feldstein in Merrily We Roll Along Movie

Normal People star Paul Mescal will join Ben Platt and Beanie Feldstein in Richard Linklater's decade-spanning film version of Stephen Sondheim and George Furth's Merrily We Roll Along.
Mescal will take on the role of Franklin Shepard, replacing the originally announced Blake Jenner. Platt will play Charles Kringas, with Feldstein as Mary Flynn. Linklater will shoot the film over the course of 20 years.
Based on the Kaufman and Hart play of the same title, Merrily We Roll Along is one of Sondheim's best-loved flops, playing a 16-performance run on Broadway in 1981. A new off-Broadway revival, starring Daniel Radcliffe, Jonathan Groff, and Lindsay Mendez, changed the fortunes of the show; it will transfer to Broadway this fall.
