Karol Wojtyla's Our God's Brother is the latest selection in The Storm Theatre Company's current season, the organization has announced. Produced in association with Blackfriar's Repertory Theatre, the drama, written by Wojtyla before he became Pope John Paul II, will play the Storm Theatre beginning April 4 and will close on May 3.
Directed by Peter Dobbins, the production will star Erin Beirnard, Matthew Leiff Christian, Joe Danbusky, Susie Duecker, George Goss, Sawyer Mastrandrea, Joseph McGranaghan, Cliff Miller, Maury Miller, and Jed Peterson.
The creative team will include Josh Iacovelli (scenic design), Courtney Izirzarry (costume design), Michael Abrams (lighting design), and Alex Santullo (sound design).
Wojtyla wrote the play as a young Polish seminarian and cofounder of the underground Rhapsodic Theatre during World War II. In 1978, he was elected Pope John Paul II and is due to be canonized on April 27, 2014. Our God's Brother tells the story of the real-life figure Albert Chmielowski, who was canonized in 1989.
