Oscar Nominee Peter Yates Dies at 81

Film director Peter Yates, who earned an Oscar nomination for helming the film version of Ronald Harwood’s play The Dresser, has died at age 81 in London.

Yates, who trained at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts, also earned an Oscar nomination for his work on Breaking Away. His many other credits include Bullitt, The Hot Rock, For Pete’s Sake, Eyewitness, and The Deep.

He also directed a television version of Don Quixote, starring John Lithgow in the title role, as well as a television adaptation of A Separate Peace.
