Repertorio Español will present the New York premiere of Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright Nilo Cruz’s El Color del Deseo (The Color of Desire) at the Gramercy Arts Theater, to run Novemer 3-December 16, with an opening on November 7. This will also mark the world premiere of the production’s interpretation in Spanish, with live simultaneous English translation. Michael Hausmann will direct.

El Color del Deseo is set in politically turbulent Havana around the time of 1960 during the beginning of the revolution. In the play, Americans and Cubans, expatriates, revolutionaries and theater people adjust to the country’s rapid change. The action is centered around the erotically charged relationship between an American businessman and a Cuban actress.

The cast will include Hannia Guillén, Ed Trucco, Maggie Bofill, Raúl Durán, Ana Margarita Martínez Casado, Frank Rodríguez, Jerry Soto, and Tatiana Vecino.

Nilo Cruz’s plays have been produced throughout the United States and Europe. In 2003 he won the Pulitzer Prize and the Steinberg in Drama for Anna in the Tropics, which was also nominated for a Tony Award. His other plays include Night Train to Bolina, Dancing on Her Knees, A Park in Our House and Two Sisters and a Piano, among others.
