New York City Center Encores! to Host Conversation on Pop Composers Writing Musicals

The evening at the Greene Space will feature Drama Desk Award-winning Encores! ”Big River” cast member Lauren Worsham.

New York City Center Encores! will host a conversation on pop composers writing musicals in anticipation of its upcoming production of Roger Miller and William Hauptman's Big River. When Pop Stars Go Broadway, part of Encores! Unscripted, will take place on June 30 at 7pm at The Greene Space.

Encores! Artistic Director Jack Viertel hosts a conversation with Rob Berman, musical supervisor for Bright Star and Encores! Music Director, and Carmel Dean, musical supervisor on Green Day’s American Idiot . The evening will feature a performance by Drama Desk Award-winning Big River cast member Lauren Worsham.

Adapted from Mark Twain's Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, the musical features a Tony-winning bluegrass score to tell the story of friendship, freedom, and the untamed Mississippi River. It will be directed by Lear deBessonet, choreographed by Josh Rhodes, and will feature musical direction by Rob Berman. It runs February 8-12.

The company will include Nicholas Barasch (Huckleberry Finn), Wayne Duvall (Pap Finn), Charlie Franklin (Tom Sawyer), Kyle Scatliffe (Jim), Tony Sheldon (The King), Christopher Sieber (The Duke), and Lauren Worsham (Mary Jane Wilkes), alongside Patrice Covington, Andrew Cristi, Mike Evariste, Annie Golden, Katherine A. Guy, Megan Masako Haley, Adrianna Hicks, Zachary Infante, Gizel Jimenez, Andrew Kruep, John-Michael Lyles, Cass Morgan, Tom Nelis, Tom Alan Robbins, and Horace V. Rogers.
