New Documentary Series Will Chronicle George Takei and Allegiance's Journey to Broadway

Takei stars in the musical that is based on his childhood experiences.

Allegiance: Trek to Broadway, a new ten-part documentary series chronicling the journey of the musical Allegiance to the Great White Way, has its official premiere today, August 3. The series can be seen exclusively on star/inspiration George Takei's Facebook page and will be presented in bimonthly installments through December 2015.

Inspired by Takei's true childhood experiences, Allegiance is set during the period of Japanese-American internment in World War II. The musical features a book by Marc Acito, with music and lyrics by Jay Kuo. Olivier Award nominee Stafford Arima directs.

Joining Takei in the cast are Tony winner Lea Salonga, Telly Leung, Katie Rose Clarke, Michael K. Lee, Christopheren Nomura as Tatsuo Kimura, Greg Watanabe, Aaron J. Albano, Belinda Allyn, Marcus Choi, Janelle Dote, Dan Horn, Owen Johnston, Darren Lee, Kevin Munhall, Manna Nichols, Autumn Ogawa, Rumi Oyama, Momoko Sugai, Elena Wang, Scott Watanabe, and Scott Wise.

Performances are set to begin at the Longacre Theatre on October 6 in advance of an official November 8 opening. Watch the first installment of the video series below:
