Michael Urie Announced to Host the 61st Annual Drama Desk Awards

The Drama Desk Award winner best known for ”Buyer & Cellar”, ”How to Succeed…”, and ”Ugly Betty” appeared off-Broadway this season in ”Shows for Days”.

Drama Desk Award winner Michael Urie (Buyer & Cellar, Ugly Betty, Shows for Days) will serve as host of the 61st Annual Drama Desk Awards, which will take place June 5 at 8 pm at The Town Hall in New York City.

The Awards show will be written by Bill Rosenfield and directed by Jack Cummings III (cofounder and artistic director of Transport Group). For the fifth consecutive year, TheaterMania will present the ceremony, with Joey Parnes Productions producing and managing the show. Gretchen Shugart is the managing executive producer of the Drama Desk Awards, and Charles Wright serves as Drama Desk president.

"We are thrilled to welcome Michael Urie as this year's Drama Desk Awards host. His charm, wit, and warmth will make for a very special and lively evening as we celebrate excellence in New York theater," said Shugart.

The Drama Desk Awards are an annual celebration of the best of Broadway, off-Broadway, and off-off-Broadway talent. Each year, the Drama Desk's voters select winners from the pool of artists nominated in each of its 30 categories. The 2016 nominees will be announced April 28 at Feinstein's/54 Below at 10am and will be streamed live on TheaterMania.com.
