MCC Theater's world premiere of Lucy Thurber's Transfers opened on Monday, April 23. Check out photos from the red carpet in the gallery below.

Directed by Jackson Gay, the cast features Ato Blankson-Wood (The Total Bent), Leon Addison Brown (The Knick), Juan Castano (Oedipus El Rey), Glenn Davis (Bengal Tiger at the Baghdad Zoo), and Samantha Soule (Godless).

Transfers was inspired by young artists participating in the MCC Theater Youth Company. The show follows Cristofer and Clarence, two gifted students from the South Bronx. After two years at a local community college being coached by faculty members, the young men are competing for a life-changing scholarship at an elite Northeast university. During a campus visit, the young men are unexpectedly confronted with their shared past while trying to break through a system that seems designed to keep them on the outside.

The creative team includes scenic design by Donyale Werle, costume design by Jessica Ford, lighting design by Russell H. Champa, and sound design by Broken Chord.

Transfers was originally presented by New York Stage and Film and Vassar in the Powerhouse Season during summer 2016.
