The Vineyard Theatre honored director Michael Mayer (Head Over Heels) at its 2018 gala on Monday, May 14, at the Edison Ballroom. Dick Scanlan and Lorin Latarro directed the event, which commemorated the company's 35th anniversary. See photos from the gala in the gallery below.
Performers and attendees included Kathleen Chalfant (For Peter Pan on her 70th Birthday), Brandon Victor Dixon (Hamilton), Matt Doyle (Brooklynite), Edie Falco ('night, Mother), Ira Glass (NPR's This American Life), Lena Hall (Hedwig and the Angry Inch), Tony Kushner (Angels in America), Judy Kuhn (Fiddler on the Roof), Alexandra Socha (Spring Awakening), and more.
Mayer has been a member of the Vineyard family for nearly 25 years, directing half a dozen plays and musicals, including the world premiere of Brooklynite. On Broadway, he has staged Side Man, Spring Awakening, Thoroughly Modern Millie, American Idiot, and Hedwig and the Angry Inch. He is the director of the upcoming Broadway musical Head Over Heels, which features the songs of the Go-Go's.
