The Menier Chocolate Factor will once again present its revival of Willy Russell’s Educating Rita, which will play the theater April 25-May 12, prior to embarking on a UK national tour.
The play is a Pygmalion like account of a young, brash Liverpudlian hairdresser trying to enrich her life by going on an English Lit Open University course.
Claire Sweeney will play the title role, with Matthew Kelly as Dr. Frank Bryant. Tamara Harvey has directed the production, which is designed by Tim Shortall, with lighting design by Paul Anderson.
Kelly received an Olivier Award for his performance in Of Mice and Men, and is also the recipient of a Royal Television Society award for Best Performer in Drama. Sweeney’s West End roles include Roxy in Chicago and Adelaide in Guys and Dolls.
