Tim Minchin, the 2013 Tony Award-nominated composer/lyricist of Broadway’s Matilda, will pen the score to the newest DreamWorks Animation musical film, Larrikins, the company has announced.

Set in Minchin’s native Australia, Larrikins, Aussie slang for a “mischievous youth,” tells the story of an uptight young bilby (a desert-dwelling marsupial) who embarks on an adventure across the outback after discovering a dangerous secret.

“I was lucky enough to grow up in Western Australia and know that the Australian outback is vast and spellbinding and heart-stoppingly beautiful, and the characters that inhabit it are unique and hilarious and tough and cheeky. I am hugely excited to be working with Harry and the DreamWorks Animation team in their mission to capture some of this unique aesthetic and quirky, iconoclastic culture on film. It’s going to be bloody good fun,” Minchin said in a statement.

The “all-animal comedy” is written by Harry Cripps (Supernova) and produced by Christina Steinberg (Rise of the Guardians).
