The Foundry Theatre has announced the world premiere of Master, a new play by Obie Award winner W. David Hancock (The Convention of Cartography), created in collaboration with acclaimed visual artist Wardell Milan. Directed by Taibi Magar, Master will begin previews at the Irondale Theatre Center on May 25 in advance of an official June 5 opening and will play a limited engagement through June 24.

The story is described as follows: "Renowned 20th century African American artist 'Uncle Jimmy' has died poor and alone; his life’s work — a radical retelling of Huckleberry Finn called The Illuminated Twain — is left behind in pieces. His estranged son James Clemens Jr. struggles to eulogize his father when he is interrupted by the arrival of Uncle Jimmy’s widow, Edna Finn, self-proclaimed last living descendent of Huckleberry."

The cast will star Mikeah Jennings (Signature Plays) as James, and Anne O’Sullivan as Edna.

The creative team includes scenic design by Marsha Ginsberg, costume design by Tilly Grimes, lighting design by Thomas Dunn, sound design by Mikaal Sulaiman, and projections by John Narun.
