in Sunset Boulevard
The Watermill Theatre’s revival of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Sunset Boulevard will close at the West End’s Comedy Theatre on May 30, with a UK tour planned for 2010.
The new small-scale production is directed and choreographed by Craig Revel Horwood, and features musical arrangements by Tony Award winner Sarah Travis, with design by Diego Pitarch, lighting by Richard G. Jones, and sound by Gary Dixon. Kathryn Evans and Ben Goddard star as Norma Desmond and Joe Gillis, with West End veteran Dave Willetts as the actress’ servant, Max von Meyerling.
Based on Billy Wilder’s 1950 Oscar-winning film of the same name, the show depicts the faded glamor of the former Hollywood icon Norma Desmond, who’s now living in isolation with only memories for company. When a struggling young screenwriter appears at her crumbling mansion, she demands a second chance in the limelight.
