Lisa Arrindell, Shaleah Adkisson, and More to Star in World Premiere of Jubilee

Arena Stage presents Tazewell Thompson’s play with music inspired by the Fisk Jubilee Singers.

Arena Stage has announced the full company for the world premiere of Tazewell Thompson's a cappella music-infused play Jubilee, running April 26-June 2 in the Kreeger Theater.

Shaleah Adkisson (Broadway's Hair), Lisa Arrindell (Broadway's Cat on a Hot Tin Roof), Zonya Love (Broadway's The Color Purple), Sean-Maurice Lynch (Ford's Ragtime), V. Savoy Mcllwain (Rep Stage's Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street), Aundi Marie Moore (Metropolitan Opera's Porgy and Bess), Simone Paulwell (San Francisco Opera's Show Boat), Travis Pratt (NBC's America's Got Talent), Katherine Alexis Thomas (Milwaukee Rep's The All Night Strut!), Greg Watkins (Constellation's Aida), Joy Jones (Arena's A Raisin in the Sun), Bueka Uwemedimo (Ford's Twelve Angry Men), and Jaysen Wright (Arena's Smart People) will all be featured in the cast.

The creative team will include Dianne Adams McDowell (vocal arrangements, music direction), Donald Eastman (set designer), Merrily Murray-Walsh (costume designer), Robert Wierzel (lighting designer), Fabian Obispo (sound designer), Shawn Duan (projection designer), Anne Nesmith (wig designer), and Ron Piretti (fight director).

"Inspired," according to a press release, "by the world-renowned Fisk Jubilee Singers, this uplifting new work chronicles the bold African American ensemble as they travel the world, captivating kings, queens and audiences with hymns and spiritual songs supported by their rich voices."
