Lea Salonga Joins the Cast of Annie at the Hollywood Bowl

Salonga’s ”Once on This Island” director, Michael Arden, will helm the summer production.

Tony Award winner Lea Salonga, who currently performs the role of Erzulie in the Broadway revival of Once on This Island, has been cast in the role of Grace Farrell in the Hollywood Bowl's upcoming production of Annie, offering three performances, July 27-29.

Annie will be helmed by Once on This Island director by Michael Arden, conducted by Todd Ellison, and choreographed by Eamon Foley. The musical features a book by Thomas Meehan, lyrics by Martin Charnin, and music by Charles Strouse, who turns 90 this June. To mark the occasion, a yearlong celebration of events, including tributes, concerts, revivals, and international productions will take place across the United States and around the world.

Salonga, best known for her Tony Award-winning performance as Kim in Miss Saigon, became the first Asian actor to play Eponine in Les Misérables on Broadway and returned to the show as Fantine in the 2006 revival, in addition to starring in the 10th- and 25th-anniversary concerts filmed and recorded for PBS. Her other Broadway credits include Flower Drum Song and Allegiance. Salonga also lent her singing voice to Princess Jasmine in Aladdin and Fa Mulan in Mulan and Mulan II.
