Inspired by the romantic novel of the same title by Robert James Waller, The Bridges of Madison County tells the story of Francesca (O’Hara), an Italian woman who marries an American soldier in order to flee Italy, only to find herself drawn to Robert Kincaid (Pasquale), a lonely National Geographic photographer, when she relocates to Iowa. A four-time Tony Award nominee, O’Hara has starred on Broadway in Nice Work If You Can Get It, South Pacific, The Light in the Piazza, and The Pajama Game, among other shows. Pasquale’s stage credits include reasons to be pretty on Broadway, A Man of No Importance, Fat Pig, and the television series Rescue Me.
Pasquale will also star in this production’s August run at Williamstown Theatre Festival opposite Elena Shaddow, who will take on the role of Francesca. O’Hara, currently pregnant with her second child, will not appear in that production. The Williamstown cast also includes Jennifer Allen, Nick Bailey, Whitney Bashor, Daniel Jenkins, Caitlin Kinnunen, Michael X. Martin, Cass Morgan, and Laura Shoop. Full casting for the Broadway production will be announced in the future.
Featured on the creative team are Sher’s frequent collaborators Michael Yeargan (scenic design), Catherine Zuber (costume design), and Donald Holder (lighting design). Jon Weston will provide sound design.
