The ”Lion King” and ”M. Buttefly” director received her portrait just days ahead of ”The Lion King’s” 20th anniversary.
Broadway innovator Julie Taymor was honored with a Sardi's portrait on Friday, November 3.
The winner of two Tony Awards, Taymor was joined by producers Nelle Nugent and Thomas Schumacher, composer Lebo M., lyricisit Tim Rice, cast members of The Lion King and M. Butterfly, and Sardi’s president Max Klimavicius.
Taymor began her Broadway career with the 1997 musical Juan Darien. Her sophomore work, The Lion King, is the global pride of Broadway. It recently celebrated its 20th Anniversary at the Minskoff Theatre. The show was nominated for 11 Tony Awards and won five, including Best Costume Design and Best Director for Taymor. She also directed Spider-Man Turn off the Dark, which opened June 14, 2011, and ran until January 4, 2014, at the historic Foxwoods Theatre. Most recently, she directed the currently running revival of M. Butterfly, starring Clive Owen, at the Cort Theatre.
