Stage and film star Julianne Moore will play Margaret White in MGM’s remake of the iconic horror film Carrie, according to Deadline.com.
The movie, to be directed by Kimberly Peirce and featuring a screenplay by playwright Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa, is based on Stephen King’s novel about a timid Maine teenager who must deal with her unfriendly schoolmates, her deeply religious mother, and her growing knowledge that she posseses the power of telekenesis.
Chloe Moretz wil play Carrie, while Gabriella Wilde will play Sue Snell. No other casting has been announced.
The property was previously filmed by Brian DePalma. It was later turned into a short-lived Broadway musical, which was recently revamped and presented at Off-Broadway’s MCC Theatre for a two-month run.
Moore starred on Broadway in The Vertical Hour and Off-Broadway in Vanya on 42nd Street. Her many film and television credits includes The Hours, Far From Heaven, and Game Change.
