Goodspeed Musicals will open its 60th anniversary season with Gypsy, starring Broadway veteran Judy McLane (Mamma Mia!) as Momma Rose. Performances will run April 28-June 18 with an official opening on May 10. Jenn Thompson directs with choreography by Patricia Wilcox.

Featuring a book by Arthur Laurents, music by Jule Styne, and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim, Gypsy is loosely based on striptease artist Gypsy Rose Lee’s autobiography and tracks her relationship with her overbearing stage mother. The musical debuted on Broadway in 1959 with Ethel Merman starring as Momma Rose. It has since been revived four more times with legendary lead performances by Angela Lansbury, Tyne Daly, Bernadette Peters, and Patti LuPone.

Joining McLane in the Goodspeed cast will be Talia Suskauer (Wicked) as Louise, Philip Hernandez (Les Misérables) as Herbie, Laura Sky Herman (Muriel’s Wedding) as Dainty June, Emily Jewel Hoder (The Music Man) as Baby June, and Cameron Blake Miller as Baby Louise.

Rounding out the ensemble are Gabriel Amato, Romelda Teron Benjamin, Kelly Margaret Berman, Amahri Edwards-Jones, Carlos Velasquez Escamilla, Thomas Goldbach V, Sunny Lauren Hoder, Victoria Huston-Elem, Edward Juvier, Meadow Nguy, Bianca Belle Palana, Maddie Robert, Ben Sears, Michael Starr, Geoffrey Wade, David Cochise Williams, and Valerie Wright. Swings for this production are Brianna Ascione and Anthony DaSilva. Chowsie (the dog) will be played by Cha-Cha.
