Classic Stage Company will present a one-night-only benefit concert of Rags, the 1986 Broadway musical by Joseph Stein, Charles Strouse, and Stephen Schwartz, on Monday, September 28 at 7pm at CSC’s Lynn F. Angelson Theater.

The concert will star Nicholas Barasch (Pirates! The Penzance Musical) as Ben Levitowitz, Tony Award nominee Judy Kuhn (Fun Home) as Rachel Halpern, Jenna Lea Rosen (Suffs) as Bella Cohen, and Tony Award nominee Steven Skybell (Cabaret) as Avram Cohen. Additional casting will be announced.

Leigh Silverman will direct, with Mary-Mitchell Campbell serving as music director.

The concert marks a notable return to Rags for Kuhn, who originated the role of Bella in the original Broadway production.

Set on New York’s Lower East Side in 1910, Rags follows Jewish immigrants pursuing the American Dream after fleeing persecution in Russia. The musical centers on Rebecca and her young son as they arrive at Ellis Island and encounter the sweatshops, pushcarts, labor movement, and burgeoning popular culture of immigrant New York.
