Joel Edgerton has joined the cast of Baz Luhrmann’s forthcoming film version of F. Scott Fitzgerald’s The Great Gatsby, according to a report on Deadline.com.
The book centers on Jay Gatsby, a wealthy man on Long Island during the roaring twenties who has a magnetic affect on all who surround him. Edgerton will play Tom Buchanan opposite Leonardo DiCaprio’s Gatsby, Tobey Maguire’s Nick Carraway, and Carey Mulligan’s Daisy Buchanan. The cast will also feature Isla Fisher as Myrtle and Elizabeth Debicki as Jordan Baker.
Edgerton was most recently seen on stage in New York playing Stanley Kowalski opposite Cate Blanchett’s Blanche DuBois in A Streetcar Named Desire. Among his film credits are King Arthur, The Thief, Acoltyes. In addition, he played Owen Lars in the Star Wars series.
