Joe DiPietro, Rajiv Joseph, Maureen McGovern, Vienna Teng, et al. Set for TheatreWorks New Works Festival

TheatreWorks in Palo Alto, California has announced the selections for its 2009 New Works Festival, to run July 15-August 23.

The theater will present the world premiere production of Tinyard Hill, a new musical by Tommy Newman and Mark Allen, along with staged readings of Raquel Bitton and Chris Smith’s play The Sparrow and the Birdman, a sensuous song-filled drama about the unforgettable Edith Piaf; Laura Schellhardt’s humorous drama Auctioning the Ainsleys; Rajiv Joseph’s thriller The North Pool; Darrah Cloud and Kim D. Sherman’s musical Makeover, the story of a feisty single mother who builds an empire from her gift for glamour, with book and lyrics by Darrah Cloud and music by Kim D. Sherman; Ernest Shackleton Loves Me, a musical with music by GrooveLily team Brendan Milburn and Valerie Vigoda, with a book by Joe DiPietro; Tales from the Bad Years, a new musical for a generation of lost and adrift twenty-somethings by Kait Kerrigan and Brian Lowdermilk; and concerts by Maureen McGovern and Vienna Teng.
