Last night, Jeremy Morse stepped into the role of Ogie in Waitress at the Brooks Atkinson Theatre, beginning a five-week stint in the featured part. He originated the role in the musical's out-of-town run at the American Repertory Theater, joining the ensemble for the production's Broadway transfer (his Broadway debut) where he has served as understudy for Christopher Fitzgerald. According to his personal social media, Morse will now perform the role in place of Fitzgerald through August 13.
Inspired by Adrienne Shelley's 2007 motion picture, Waitress features songs by Sara Bareilles, a book by Jessie Nelson, and direction by Diane Paulus. The production opened April 24, 2016, at the Brooks Atkinson Theatre and earned four Tony nominations, including Best Original Score.
The current company is led by Betsy Wolfe as Jenna, alongside Charity Angél Dawson, Caitlin Houlahan, Drew Gehling, Joe Tippett, Dakin Matthews, Eric Anderson, Dayna Jarae Dantzler, Kayla Davion, Matt DeAngelis, Cate Elefante, Thay Floyd, Henry Gottfried, Molly Hager, Molly Jobe, Max Kumangai, Anastacia McCleskey, Ella Dane Morgan, and Stephanie Torns.
