Jeremy Jordan and Lindsay Mendez to Sing Sweet Smell of Success in Hamlisch Tribute
A host of Broadway favorites have been announced to perform a staged concert featuring selections from the Broadway musical Sweet Smell of Success on May 4 to benefit the American Cancer Society. The event, titled A Spring Tribute to Marvin Hamlisch, will take place at the Hudson Theatre.
The cast will include Marc Kudisch (Hand to God) as J.J. Hunsecker and Tony nominee Jeremy Jordan (Newsies) as Sidney Falcone as well as Adam Jacobs (Aladdin) as Dallas, Lindsay Mendez (Wicked) as Rita, Marissa McGowan (A Little Night Music) as Susan, Bernard Dotson (Sweet Smell of Success), Steven Brinberg, Peter Dugan, and Charles Yang. The ensemble will feature Craig Blake, Dionne Figgins, Matt Gibson, Justin Henry, Reed Kelly, Amanda Kloots, Ryan Steer, Mindy Wallace, Chryssie Whitehead, Ryan Worsing, and Sam Zack.
The evening will honor philanthropist Lily Safra with the Marvin Hamlisch Memorial Award for Humanitarian Efforts for her ongoing global charitable endeavors, notably in science and in medicine.
John Simpkins directs, with music direction by J. Ernest Green and choreography by Emmy winner Tyce Diorio. The evening will feature music provided by an orchestra.
Sweet Smell of Success features a book by John Guare, music by Marvin Hamlisch, and lyrics by Craig Carnelia. The show originally opened at the Martin Beck Theatre on Broadway in March 2002. It was nominated for seven Tonys, including Best Musical, Best Book of a Musical, Best Original Musical Score, and Best Featured Actor in a Musical for Brian d’Arcy James in his role as Sidney Falcone. John Lithgow won a Tony for Best Performance by a Leading Actor in a Musical and a Drama Desk Award for Outstanding Actor in a Musical for his portrayal of J.J. Hunsecker.
