The Fred Ebb Foundation, in association with the Roundabout Theatre Company, has announced that Jeff Blumenkrantz has won the seventh annual Fred Ebb Award for Musical Theatre Songwriting, which is named in honor of the late award-winning lyricist. The prize carries a $50,000 cash award.
Blumenkrantz received a Tony Award nomination for his songs in Urban Cowboy. His other works include Woman with Pocketbook and Precious Little Jewel. Among the many artists who have recorded his songs are Audra McDonald, Sutton Foster, Rebecca Luker, Victoria Clark, Lauren Kennedy, and Megan Mullally.
As a performer, Blumenkrantz has appeared on Broadway in Into the Woods, Threepenny Opera, Damn Yankees, How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying, and A Class Act.
