Behind-the-scenes scoop with the stars of Disney’s newest musical project and the man at the helm of the ship.
Rob Marshall's eagerly awaited screen adaptation of Into the Woods opens in theaters next Thursday (Christmas day to those who need motivation to get on with their shopping). As cast members traverse the globe promoting the film, TheaterMania's friends across the pond at WhatsOnStage had a chance to sit down with Marshall, along with the musical's Baker (James Corden) and Cinderella (Anna Kendrick).
The three shared their thoughts on the musical movie venture — a project that handed Disney the challenge of adapting one of the most highly regarded pieces in Broadway history, not to mention in Stephen Sondheim and James Lapine's impressive collaborative repertoire.
Marshall offered insights into the process of adapting a stage work to the screen, specifically elucidating the role Sondheim and Lapine played in the making of the film. Corden and Kendrick threw the perspective of the performer into the mix as well. The two discussed their characters, shared some behind-the-scenes anecdotes (which included a few intimidating moments with the legendary Sondheim), and expressed hopes for a strong future for the movie musical.
