35mm: A Musical Exhibition begins tonight at Luna Stage Company. The multimedia musical asks if a picture is worth 1,000 words, what is a song worth? The various photographs by Matthew Murphy inspire songs that capture moments in time. Each song attempts to capture a glimmer of life unfolding or a glimpse of something happening. The exploration of new musical theater depicts an intricately woven collection of stories and the possibility of what modern American musicals can be.
Based on photographs by Matthew Murphy, the show is written by Ryan Scott Oliver and directed by Daniel Viola. The cast comprises artists Chrissy Cody, Maria Dontas, Brittany Goodwin, Jacob R. Hines, Oliver Mayes, Caleb Rohrbacher, James Gerard Russo, and April Sigler.
The creative team includes Kaitlin O’Leary (light design), Daniel Viola (set design), Rusty Miller (costume design), Brianna McIntyre (assistant director), Megan Bandelt (dramaturge), and Daniel Viola (music director).
Performances will run through May 31.
