Heidi Blickenstaff, John Cariani, and More Join Something Rotten! on Broadway
Additional casting has been announced for the upcoming Broadway premiere of the new musical comedy Something Rotten!, starring Tony Award winner Christian Borle (Peter and the Starcatcher) and two-time Tony nominee Brian d'Arcy James (Hamilton). The new musical by Wayne Kirkpatrick, Karey Kirkpatrick, and John O'Farrell will open at the St. James Theatre on April 22, with previews set to begin March 23.Tony Award winner Casey Nicholaw directs and choreographs.
The show's newly announced cast members include Tony Award nominee John Cariani (Fiddler on the Roof), Heidi Blickenstaff ([title of show]), Tony Award nominee Brad Oscar (The Producers), Kate Reinders (Wicked), Tony Award nominee Brooks Ashmanskas (Martin Short: Fame Becomes Me), Peter Bartlett (Cinderella), Gerry Vichi (The Drowsy Chaperone), and Michael James Scott (The Book of Mormon). The ensemble will also feature Eric Giancola, Linda Griffin, David Hibbard, Jenny Hill, Stacey Todd Holt, Courtney Iventosch, Aaron Kaburick, Austin Lesch, Beth Johnson Nicely, Aleks Pevec, Angie Schworer, Eric Sciotto, Brian Shepard, Chelsea Morgan Stock, Ryan VanDenBoom, Matt Wall, Marisha Wallace, and Bud Weber.
Something Rotten! is set in 1590s England and follows Nick and Nigel Bottom, a pair of play-writing brothers who are stuck in the shadow of William Shakespeare. When they visit a local soothsayer, the brothers are inspired to write the world's first musical.
The design team for Something Rotten! will feature Scott Pask (scenic design), Gregg Barnes (costume design), Natasha Katz (lighting design), Peter Hylenski (sound design), Josh Marquette (hair design), Phil Reno (music direction and conductor), Glen Kelly (arrangements), and Larry Hochman (orchestrations).
