Hedy Burress, PJ Griffiths, and Andrew Leeds will star in the Blank Theatre Company’s world premiere production of Setup & Punch, to run May 9-June 21. The show, which will open officially on May 14, is written by Mark Saltzman with original songs by Berton Averre and Rob Meurer. It will be directed by Daniel Henning.
The plot concerns a pair of clever Broadway songwriters whose promising relationship is blown to bits when they must collaborator with the sexy lead singer of a cutting-edge rock band. Saltzman’s other works include The Tin Pan Alley Rag and Mr. Shaw Goes to Hollywood. Averre is the lead guitarist and co-writer of the rock group The Knack, while Meurer is a noted arranger and composer.
Burress is best known for her TV work, which includes Boston Commons and Gideon’s Crossing. Griffith’s stage credits include Mamma Mia! and The Who’s Tommy. Leeds’ stage credits include Falsettos and Les Miserables.
