Julia Roberts and Paul Rudd will return to Broadway this spring in a revival of Bess Wohl’s play Small Mouth Sounds, directed by Joe Mantello at the Barrymore Theatre. Performances begin February 18, in advance of a March 18 opening.

Small Mouth Sounds, which put Tony winner Bess Wohl on the map, debuted at Ars Nova in 2015 in a production directed by Rachel Chavkin. Largely free of dialogue, the play unfolds at a silent retreat in the woods, where six city dwellers attempt to confront their demons.

Joining Roberts and Rudd are Martin Freeman, Greta Lee, Sarah Paulson, and Isaac Powell.

Roberts and Rudd appeared together in Mantello’s 2006 Broadway production of Richard Greenberg’s Three Days of Rain, a play that is also receiving a Broadway revival this spring. The production marked Roberts’s only Broadway appearance to date, while Rudd last appeared on Broadway in Craig Wright’s Grace in 2012.

The creative team for Small Mouth Sounds includes scenic designer Chloe Lamford, lighting designer Jack Knowles, costume designer An D’Huys, andsound designer Tom Gibbons. Music is by Caroline Shaw, with movement by JA Collective.

Our critic called the original production of Small Mouth Soundsvery funny and touching.”
