Hamilton Mixtape's "Immigrants (We Get the Job Done)" Wins New Award at VMAs

The music video earned one of the inaugural “Best Fight Against the System” honors.

Hamilton made it all the way to MTV's Video Music Awards last night, where "Immigrants (We Get the Job Done)" was one of the award recipients in the inaugural "Best Fight Against the System" category.

The track, by K'naan, is featured on The Hamilton Mixtape, the hip-hop album featuring selections from or remixes of the Broadway score performed by a variety of popular artists. "Immigrants (We Get the Job Done)" features K'naan, Snow Tha Product, Riz MC, and Residente.

The video was recognized alongside all of the other nominees in the newly minted category, which included "Scars to Your Beautiful" by Alessia Cara, "Light" by Big Sean, "Surefire" by John Legend, "Black SpiderMan" by Logic featuring Damian Lemar Hudson, and "Stand Up/Stand N Rock #NoDAPL" by Taboo featuring Shailene Woodley.

The video for "Immigrants (We Get the Job Done)" is directed by Tomás Whitmore and executive produced by Robert Rodriguez, Hamilton creator Lin-Manuel Miranda, Kimberly Stuckwisch, and Ian Blair. It was launched to help promote fundraising for the Immigrants: We Get The Job Done Coalition, a group of 12 partner organizations that provide services to immigrants, refugees, and asylees, including legal representation, advocacy, and awareness campaigns. As part of that effort, Miranda is asking fans to post videos of themselves performing songs from Hamilton with the hashtag #Ham4All.

Susan Bro, mother of Heather Heyer, who was killed while protesting in Charlottesville, Virginia, introduced the category at the awards ceremony.
