Felix Rojas’s solo family drama returns to the New York stage.
Growing Up Gonzales, a family drama written and directed by Felix Rojas, will begin its open-ended off-Broadway run on June 24 at the Actors' Temple Theater.
Performed by Andres "Chulisi" Rodriguez, Growing Up Gonzales is a bittersweet comedy of two brothers (both played by Rodriguez) growing up in the Bronx in the '70s, whose coming-of-age is marked by the untimely death of their father.
Growing Up Gonzales opened in January 2012 at the Jan Hus Playhouse, where it ran for eight months. After Jan Hus, the show ran for six weeks at the Poet’s Den Theater, starring Luis Antonio Ramos, followed by a four-month run at Teatro Sea in the lower east side, and most recently, at the Medicine Show Theatre for a 15-performance showcase.
Growing Up Gonzales is executive-produced by Michael and Sandra Lang (I Like It Like That), Linda Garcia, Maria Barreto, John O'Connor, and Maria Torres (On Your Feet!).
