Forget ”The Big Bang Theory”. Tonight, the Almighty becomes the prime mover of the new Broadway season.
The new Broadway comedy An Act of God, starring Emmy winner Jim Parsons (The Big Bang Theory), will kick off the 2015-16 Broadway season when it celebrates its opening night tonight, May 28, at Studio 54. Two-time Tony Award winner Joe Mantello directs the production.
In the production, Parsons plays God, with two-time Drama Desk Award winner Christopher Fitzgerald (Finian's Rainbow) and Tim Kazurinsky (Saturday Night Live) joining him as as the angels Michael and Gabriel, respectively.
An Act of God is inspired by the best-selling book The Last Testament: A Memoir by God as well as by author and playwright David Javerbaum's Twitter feed, The Tweet of God. The play follows the Almighty and His angels as they answer some of the deepest questions that have plagued mankind since creation.
The new comedy features scenic design by Scott Pask, costume design by David Zinn, lighting design by Hugh Vanstone, sound design by Fitz Patton, and projection design by Peter Nigrini.
