Get a First Look at Taye Diggs in His Hedwig Finest

Taye Diggs celebrated his first performance as the eponymous transgender rock star in Broadway's Hedwig and the Angry Inch last night. The stage and screen favorite is set to continue his run in the musical through October 11, and now we have our first glimpse of what that will look like. People has just released the first production images of Diggs rocking out in Hedwig's heals.

The Tony Award-winning Broadway revival of Hedwig and the Angry Inch opened at Broadway's Belasco Theatre on April 22, 2014, and earned four Tony Awards, including Best Revival of a Musical. Written by John Cameron Mitchell and Stephen Trask, the show follows the titular transgender rock performer as she recounts her life during a concert at Broadway's Belasco Theatre, where the musical runs. Michael Mayer directs the revival.

Diggs, whose previous Broadway credits include Wicked, Chicago, Rent, and Carousel follows in a line of Broadway Hedwigs from Tony winner Neil Patrick Harris to Glee star Darren Criss.
