George Weissman, Former Chairman of Lincoln Center Dies at 90

George Weissman, who was chairman of the Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts from 1986 to 1994, has died, according to a report in The New York Times. He was 90 years old.

Weissman, who for many years was chairman of Philip Morris Companies Inc., was an ardent supporter of the performing arts in New York. In addition to his work with and support of Lincoln Center, he was a champion of the Brooklyn Academy of Music’s Next Wave festival and encouraged his company’s support of this and other experimental arts events.
