Chicago Shakespeare Theater (CST) has announced the addition of two World’s Stage productions to its 2010-2011 Season.
In January, CST will present a return engagement of Funk It Up About Nothin’ by GQ and JQ (The Q Brothers). This hip-hop adaptation of Shakespeare’s Much Ado About Nothing was originally seen at the theater in 2008. The presentation in Chicago this winter precedes a ten-week tour of Australia that will include engagements in Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide, Bathurst, Orange, Wagga, Albury and Wollongong. Casting will be announced at a later date.
The second addition will be the National Theatre of Scotland’s Black Watch, which will run March 29 – April 10 at Chicago’s Broadway Armory. Directed by John Tiffany, the show is based on interviews conducted by Gregory Burke with former soldiers who served in Iraq. Viewed through the eyes of those on the ground, the play reveals what it means to be part of the legendary Scottish regiment, what it means to be part of the war on terror, and what it means to make the journey home again.
The two productions join the previously announced World’s Stage season which includes the currently running Itsoseng (through June 20), written and performed by Omphile Molusi; performance artist Aurélia Thiérrée in Aurélia’s Oratorio (December 1-12); and Druid Theatre Company’s production of Martin McDonagh’s The Cripple of Inishmaan (March 15-27), directed by Garry Hynes.
