Full casting has been announced for the European premiere Stephen Adly Guirgis’ The Last Days of Judas Iscariot, to run March 28-May 10 at the Almeida Theatre. The show will be directed by Rupert Goold, and the creative team includes designer Anthony Ward, lighting designer Howard Harrison, and sound designer Adam Cork.
The play, which debuted at New York’s Public Theatre, is a comic courtroom drama where history’s most infamous betrayal is dissected by the forces of good and evil. Figures such as Pontius Pilate, Mother Theresa, and Sigmund Freud are called to testify in a trial of God and the Kingdom of Heaven and Earth versus Judas Iscariot in a court that owes as much to the ghetto as the Gospels. Guirgis’ other plays include Our Lady of 121st Street, Jesus Hopped the ‘A’ Train, and The Little Flower of East Orange.
The show will star Douglas Henshall as Satan, Joseph Mawle as Judas Iscariot, and Ron Cephas Jones as Pontias Pilate. The cast also includes Gawn Grainger, Susan Lynch, Shane Attwooll, Amanda Boxer, Josh Cohen, Dona Croll, Edward Hogg, Corey Johnson, Mark Lockyer, John MacMillan, Poppy Miller, and Jessika Williams.
