The anticipated Broadway revival of Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street has taken its next big step toward the stage, releasing photos of its stars — Tony nominee Josh Groban and Tony winner Annaleigh Ashford — in full character. The revival of Stephen Sondheim and Hugh Wheeler's iconic musical, directed by Tony winner Thomas Kail (Hamilton), will begin performances at the Lunt-Fontanne Theatre on February 26 ahead of an official March 26 opening.
Featured cast members joining Groban and Ashford onstage include Jordan Fisher as Anthony, Gaten Matarazzo as Tobias, Tony Award winner Ruthie Ann Miles as Beggar Woman, Maria Bilbao as Johanna, Jamie Jackson as Judge Turpin, John Rapson as Beadle Bamford, Nicholas Christopher as Pirelli and standby for Sweeney Todd, and Jeanna de Waal as standby for Mrs. Lovett and Beggar Woman.
Sweeney Todd will additionally feature Jonathan Tunick's original 26-player orchestrations on Broadway for the first time since 1980. Tony winner Alex Lacamoire (Hamilton) will serve as music supervisor, and Olivier Award winner Steven Hoggett choreographs.
